New Life Plan…

Alright, I know I’ve been MIA for over two weeks…I’m sorry! But things have been a bit crazy since I wrote that last post. After writing about working toward my goals and getting out of my less than desirable situation, I had no choice but to spring into action! So here’s the latest:

  1. I have decided to look for a new job in Kansas City. Yes, this means postponing my NYC dreams for a while, but it’s definitely time for me to move on to bigger and better things, career-wise, and for now that means staying in KC.
  2. I’m moving out of my parent’s house! I know, I didn’t think it would ever happen either…But a new job probably means more money, and definitely means I’m confident that I will be in Kansas City long enough to sign a 1 year lease!

I think I had to come to the realization that my transition to NYC needs to be made in baby steps rather than one giant leap. So this is me working toward my goals, granted it’s at a much slower pace than before, but I feel great about it!

I think it’s important to identify our own limitations in order to grow and become good adults (no, I still don’t consider myself an adult…shh). I know I’m not superwoman; I can’t do it all, no matter how hard I try! But I am fabulous and talented and worthy of success! And not to sound like a broken record, but it will come if I keep working hard.

Okay then! I got that out and even though I will be moving at the end of the month, I hope to find more time each week to dedicate to writing… Maybe if you all shame me into it via social media, I will at least feel an obligation to follow through! :-)

Congrats, that’s exciting! Things will work out the way you want them to eventually, it just takes time. We’ve all got to start somewhere, right? :) I may have to steal this mantra from you though, “I’m fabulous and worthy of success.” One of those things I feel like everyone should write down on a post-it, stick to their desk, and look at everyday.

Thank you, Lauren! Please do steal the mantra. You ARE fabulous and worthy of success! It may not come tomorrow, but it will come!

I think you’re on your way…even if it feels like baby steps, you’re making progress when a lot of people feel like they’re regressing. Keep up with the positive attitude, and I’ll be sure we loop in sometime this summer!

    Good for you.

I don’t think you need to ask for social media people to pester you into writing more often. (Because they probably would.) You should write when it feels like a good time, because you obviously have some other things going on right now that should command most of your attention. We will all still be here when you strike an equilibrium.

Ha thanks Ty! I don’t NEED to be pestered by my internet BFFs but it doesn’t hurt… :-)

Well done, Ashley. This is a terrific transition plan…a transition from one job to another and a transition from a family home to your own. Every transition prepares you for the next. There has been no change in your desire to go to NYC, only the realization that you need to increase your preparaion and readiness. That’s how you become more business fit. These two big moves increase your momentum, provide new insights and lessons to draw from, bolster your confidence and resolve, and give you LOTS more to write about. It takes real COURAGE to make these steps and courage is something that will continue to set you apart! Sounds pretty adult to me! You’re more than on your way! Happy packing! All the best, Dawn

Thanks Dawn! I’m looking forward to reading your book and integrating the advice into my plan moving forward. I appreciate your support (also thanks for calling me an adult…that word scares me!)

Hey Good Luck with everything, there is no problem with re-prioritizing things! You made the effort to make a change, and realized you aren’t ready yet. It’s better to be prepared. I’m confident you’ll reach your goal soon enough. : )

I am confident as well! Thanks for the good luck though…I totally need it some days!

Congratulations – especially on this being part of your plan “But I am fabulous and talented and worthy of success!”! If you have a plan and you’re working your butt off to make it happen – look out, world! I’m happy to keep in touch to be sure you’re moving forward and living your plan in every thing you do. Go girl! :)

Congrats Ashley! Things are changing for the better, and although they may not be the changes you were hoping for, that doesn’t mean you’ll never get there. The new place looks great, and I’m so excited for you!

Hi Ashley, sorry to hear you’ve put NYC on hold for now. I’m curious if you are looking for a new job at a big corporation (or the non-profit equivalent) that could possibly let you transfer to NYC in the future? I’m still having a lot of trouble in my job-search, so I can sympathize with your decision.

    • April 6, 2010 at 8:59 am | #18

Hey Rob! I’m looking for all sorts of things right now! I would love to stay in the non-profit sector but am seriously considering breaking into the agency side of things to get some more marketing-specific experience. I’ve found that with small non-profits and associations, one is typically asked to be a jack of all trades and a master of none. So that’s a challenge for me. I’m sorry to hear you are still struggling with the job search! I wish I had some contacts for you! But I’m totally confident you will find something. I think you’re doing everything right! If you want some business/job search inspiration check out http://dawnlennon.wordpress.com/ or blogging4jobs.com if you haven’t yet! GOOD LUCK and stay in touch!

It’s really good that you are staying encouraged to move forward and adjust the direction you take. It’s very, VERY easy to become discouraged, but realizing that you will find a good career direction in time and be happy is worth more than anything. And an easy way to keep upbeat. Cheers!
